Curing Arthritis God's Way

Curing Arthritis God's Way
By John W. Rowe

Most people wonder how my arthritis cure took me from severe arthritis in my spine, to loading and unloading 50, 60, and even 70 pound suitcases for a major airline company.

It all started with a weight loss diet I had been on for over a year. I had lost 42 pounds since the beginning of the year and it was then October. Although I felt fine, several of my family members noticed that my skin was looking dull, or chalking. They were unable to tell me exactly what it was that concerned them, but they were concerned none the less. I laughed it off, saying that I hadn't felt better since I was a teenager. At this time, I was 53 years old weighing in at 161 pounds.

My diet consisted of mostly meats. I would have eggs, ham, sausage or bacon, but no toast or any other carbohydrates. Lunch usually consisted of meat such as ground beef, bacon, ham, and of course no carbohydrates. Dinner would be one to two steaks, a roast, or any other meat product. No bread, fruits or vegetables, were allowed. That is when the problems began.

It was the fall of 1996, and I had just finished covering a concrete slab with sand taken from a section of my farm. I had done this with a backhoe, using my left arm to move the bucket up and down many times that day. After finishing, I went into the house to eat supper and watch some television. After that, it was off to bed. Sleep came easy, as I was tired that evening from doing so much work.

As I was getting out of bed the following morning, I fell to the floor screaming in pain. The pain was in my back, just under the left shoulder blade. It was a pain so intense, that it caused me to moan out loud, then weep in agony. My wife was called at work and came home as fast as she could. When she arrived, I was still on the couch still in sever agony waiting to be brought to the doctor.

After being checked by the doctor, I was sent to the hospital where I was given an MRI. After the MRI, and several X-rays of my back, I was told I had a compressed disc at the sixth vertebrae. I was also told I also had arthritis in the same location and the nerves from that area were rubbing against the bone. I was given pills and a neck brace and told that I would be going to therapy. The therapy given included lying down on a bed where an electric motor, attached to the neck brace, pulled my neck. The idea was to stretch my spine, thus relieving the pressure on the nerves that were being affected. I knew I would be in therapy for a long time, and was told that the arthritis would continue to be a problem for me. I should not be able to do much manual labor or sports. Most of my time would be spent playing board games, watching television, or being a spectator. Not the greatest arthritis cure if you ask me.

It didn't matter how many pills I was given, nothing relieved the pain. I could not sleep, in fact, sleep only happened when I was completely exhausted. Sometimes I would be awake in pain for up to fifty four hours. Their proposed arthritis cure wasn't working. During this time, about two months into my therapy, one of my daughters told me about a way of eating that may help. I listened, and was willing to try anything to ease the continuous pain I was in. From 1997 to the present, I continued to eat the way my daughter had suggested, although another incident would test the validity of her research and proposed arthritis cure.

In 2003, while working in a warehouse, I was sliding a 300lb generator across the floor when I strained my back. After going to the doctor and getting more x-rays done on my back, I was told that I had strained a muscle, and would be on light duty for several weeks. I asked the doctor how my spine looked on the x-rays, explaining that I had undergone therapy for a year for severe arthritis. He looked surprised, telling me that I had the spine of a 40 year old man. I was shown the x-ray and all the vertebrae were full, spaced, and had no jagged edges. My spine had no arthritis and was in good condition. Seemed my new arthritis cure was working.

I am now 65 years old, and can do everything I did when I was in my 40's. My running may be a little slower, and I would rather watch football than play it, but when I am working with 20 year olds, loading and unloading planes, many are amazed at how I keep up with them. We often move one hundred and fifty bags per plane, having to complete our task within forty minutes. Sometimes we have to do this for several hours without a break.

How is that possible? By eating the way I have according to my arthritis cure for the last ten years. I now weigh 180 pounds, and have muscle mass that many my age are without.

Here's the secret.

I am a firm believer that God made us in such a special way, that even our physical bodies are capable of correcting themselves when things go wrong. If we cut ourselves, our body will heal that cut. If we have a bacteria in our body, our body's defenses will kill it. There is no pill that can cure a virus, only our body.

God made us to be able to live long lives. I have read, that in the beginning, God told us to eat from any tree we wanted except one. He told us to name all the animals but not eat them. Hundreds of years after we decided to eat from the forbidden tree, God said that we were not going to live past one hundred and twenty years. Up until then, some were living to be 900 years old. How was He going to accomplish this? Certainly not by killing us at that age. No, His mercy is such that He would not do such a thing. So what did He do then? He told us we could now eat the flesh of the animals He created. That's it, no killing us on the spot or demanding we drop dead at a certain age. We were given a choice, a real arthritis cure, as far as I was concerned. One to eat fruits and vegetables, to eat meat, or the choice to eat both. When we decided to add meat to our meals, we can see that after a certain time in history, no one lived more than one hundred and twenties again.

First of all, I must tell you that you should not believe any advertisement that tells you that you can arthritis cure can come through a drink mix, pill, or any other quick fix method. They cannot and will not be able to cure you.

My therapy lasted for six weeks as this is all my insurance would cover. I continued therapy at home which helped ease the pain a little, but was still bad enough to keep me awake several nights a week. That is when I started eating the way my daughter had suggested to experience my arthritis cure.

I would only eat vegetables, fruit, and drink carrot juice.

Day 1: Breakfast: Large bowl of salad- green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, 1 apple, 1 cucumber, 1/2 tomato, broccoli spears.Salad dressing- Good Seasoning, dry seasoning, vinegar, water, extra virgin olive oil.Carrot Juice

As time went on, I would add an apple, celery, or beets to the carrot juice. I was continually adding nutrients to my body.

Lunch: Large salad-romaine lettuce, strawberries, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 tomato, broccoli spears.Carrot juice

I always used the same dressing.

Dinner: Wild salmon, sweet potato, small saladWater: eight or more glasses a day is always recommended.

Day 2: Same as Day 1 but change fruit, (raisins, blueberries, pears). By adding fruit, your salad will come alive with taste. It also helps curb the sugar desire.

Dinner: Large salad, adding tuna fish.

Day 3: Same as day 1, always changing fruits.Dinner: Wild salmon, salad

Day4: Same as Day 1 for breakfast and lunch.Dinner: Veggie burger with bun, salad

Day 5-7: Mix of first 4 days.

Snacks: In between meals, it is always a good idea to have a small snack to keep refueling your body.Choice of cucumber, apple, pear, nuts, carrot, and occasionally a nutritional drink.

You might be thinking that there is no way you could eat like this day after day for years to come. I will admit, I thought I couldn't do it either. I actually started by only eating salads, and after only two days, I was not able to eat that way anymore. That is why I had to add tuna and fish to different meals. I was unable to eat only salads, as they would leave me feeling hungry.

My brain would tell me that I needed meat, but I knew what meat had already done to me, so I persevered.

When you have the kind of pain I did, you become motivated to try and try again.

After eating this way for almost one month, I realized that I was no longer feeling hungry in between meals and was actually starting to feel better. My pain was just an ache and even then it was only when I moved a certain way.

My pain began to lessen over the next months. When year two started, I continued with my eating plan, only now adding more things.

I would add an egg to my salad at lunch or even chicken once in a while. I must remind you, that I always had a salad for breakfast, consisting of only fruits and vegetables. With that, I always had carrot juice that I made from scratch with a juicing machine.

Today I can tell you that I no longer have arthritis in my spine. I hope that my experience will help those of you out there that have lost the joy of moving due to arthritis. I cannot guarantee that you will have a recovery like mine but I certainly hope you will try.

In closing, I must first and foremost thank God for my recovery. It was His instruction that showed me how, His creative ability that made it possible, and His live in those around me who kept encouraging me.
